Herringbone tweed trousers with a high waist

Smart-casual trousers cut from a herringbone tweed — the classic zig-zag twill you can see running through the cloth in the close-ups. It is a wool-blend fabric with a soft, brushed handle and enough weight to hold a crease, which is what stops these reading as casual trousers in a smart setting. Two warm neutrals: a light greige and a deeper brown.

Details:

  • Herringbone tweed in a wool blend, with the twill running visibly through the cloth
  • High waistband fastening with a single button and a fly
  • Belt loops all the way round
  • Soft pleat at the front, so the trousers fall from the hip rather than pulling across it
  • Slant side pockets
  • Tapered leg, narrowing gently from the hip down
  • Two colours: beige and brown
  • Sizes S to 2XL

How to wear them

The high waist is the part to work with: tuck in a fine knit or a shirt and the trousers do the rest. For the office, a black or cream roll-neck and loafers. Out of it, a chunky knit and ankle boots, or a leather jacket if you want to take the tailoring down a notch. Beige is the softer of the two and sits with cream, camel and grey; brown is the one that works with black.

Size & fit

The trousers come in S to 2XL. The size guide on this page gives the waist, hip and bust measurements each size is meant to fit — those are body measurements, not the measurements of the trousers. If you are between two sizes, take the larger one.

How to measure yourself

  1. Waist: around the narrowest part of your waist, usually just above the navel.
  2. Hips: around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
  3. Inside leg: from the crotch seam straight down to the hem — not from the waistband.

Care

Wool-blend tweed keeps its shape best on a cool, gentle wash or with a dry clean. Do not tumble dry. Dry flat rather than on a hanger so the waistband does not stretch, and press on the reverse with a cloth between the iron and the cloth if you want a sharp line.

A note on colour

Colours can look slightly different from one screen to another depending on brightness and settings.
