The Winter Coat is a short padded coat built around two things: a huge padded funnel collar that folds out and stands high around the neck, and a self-tie belt that pulls the waist in. Puffer coats usually do one or the other. This one gives you the warmth of a thick quilted coat without the boxy shape that normally comes with it.

The quilting runs in broad horizontal channels rather than fine baffles, which is what gives the coat its soft, rounded look. The front fastens with concealed press studs, so there is no zip breaking up the line, and the sleeves are cut wide and full with a plain cuff. Two side pockets sit below the belt. It finishes on the upper thigh, so it works over jeans, leggings or a dress without swamping you.

• Care: Cool gentle wash or dry clean, following the label inside the coat. Do not bleach. Reshape the collar while damp so it keeps its height.

How to wear it

Belted, it reads as a coat rather than a sports jacket, so it carries over jeans and knitwear on weekdays and over a dress in the evening. Beige and Brown sit with camel, cream and denim; Black goes with everything and is the easiest choice if you only want one. Leave the belt untied and the same coat turns into a relaxed, oversized shape.

Size & fit

The coat is cut generously through the body and shoulders, which is what allows it to be belted. Sizes run from XS to XL, with a bust measurement from 118 cm in XS to 134 cm in XL, measured flat on the garment rather than on the body, so the padding is included in that figure.
